In a miraculous verse from the Holy Quran, ALLAH says the following:

الم تر ان الله يسجد له من في السماوات ومن في الارض والشمس والقمر والنجوم والجبال والشجر والدواب وكثير من الناس وكثير حق عليه العذاب ومن يهن الله فما له من مكرم ان الله يفعل ما يشاء  (الحج-18)

See you not that whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawâb moving (living creatures, beasts), and many of mankind prostrate themselves to Allah? But there are many (men) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allâh disgraces, none can honour him. Verily! Allâh does what He wills. (18) [22:18]

والنجم والشجر يسجدان

Let’s see how the stars, trees, mountains and animals prostrate to ALLAH…

1- How does Muslim prostrate to God?

During our prayer, We “Muslims” stand, bow and prostrate to God, and as shown in the below figure, the axes of human body is declining and the inclining again to its position in a complete cycle for each “Reka’ah” in our prayer.  Therefore the changing of the axes in one direction and returning to its original position is “technically” what is called prostration, not forgetting the readings that must be said during the whole prayer.

2- Prostration of Earth, Sun, Moon, Stars, and Planets:

Actually, all planets and stars, including our Earth, moon, Sun and all planets of Solar system have the movement around their axes with a tilting angle, as shown in the below figure [1], and this what mostly means by the prostration of Stars and planets:

3- Prostration of Mountains:

In the above photo, we say how all planets move around their axis, but we don’t notice any movement from Mountains and it seems very firm !!

But, the truth is different and this appear in the following study where scientist tried to measure the height of Everest mountain using satellite tools and instruments so to be very exact, but they were very astonished when discovered that its height is not fixed and actually it’s vibrating with +/- 0.21m, and it’s not only Everest but even the Alps mountains, where they found the difference is around 2.15m in 2 years period.

In 1856 – Everest height was measured to be 29,002 feet

In 1953 – 29,031 feet

In 1999 – 29,035 feet

And this vibration in mountains height and its increase year after year is what we can call the “prostration of Mountains”.

4- Prostration of Trees:

We understand that moving around axes is prostration, and therefore since  tree’s axes is vertical so it’s prostration must be to bend right and left of its axes, as shown in the below figure.

But, some may think that this bending is because of the wind, actually NO !!

The trees really bend right and left without wind but as prostration to God, as shown in the below videos that record time lapse for a complete year and it shows how trees direction is changing from year to year:

Looking carefully to the videos and taking the first seconds and compare them with last seconds, we notice how the trees movement changed to the left then to the right, as in the following snap shots for the same videos:

It also clear in a new plantation, where they turn left and right more frequently, although there is no wind and can be best seen in the following videos:

5- Prostration of Animals:

Since most of animals have horizontal axes, therefore lowering their axes is their prostration as seen in the following images:

6- Prostration of People:

And this is meant for Muslims only, as we are the only people who prostrate to GOD, our Creator.

Each Muslim prostrate almost 20 times a day, and if we assume that 1 of 1.6 billion Muslims who pray every day (i.e. not so young or so old and pray 5 times a day), then 20,000,000,000 prostrations are done by Muslims to God every day.

The pity thing that all Universe prostrate to God but still some of humans refuse to do so:

What is the matter with them, that they believe not? (20) And when the Qur'ân is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, (21) Nay, those who disbelieve, belie (22) And Allâh knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), (23) So announce to them a painful torment. (24) Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). (25) [84: 20-25]

(O you disbelievers)! Eat and enjoy yourselves (in this worldly life) for a little while. Verily, you are the criminals. (46) Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)! (47) And when it is said to them: "Bow down yourself (in prayer)!" They bow not down (offer not their prayers). (48) Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)! (49) Then in what statement after this (the Qur'ân) will they believe? (50) [77: 46-50]
